This elegant castle close to Clonmellon in County Westmeath, is now lovingly restored that you can stay in to visit the place as well as hosting different events.

The castle is not far from The Raleigh Obelisk that were erected in 1810 by Sir Thomas Chapman some 200m to 300m from the house, marking the position where Sir Walter Raleigh planted some of the first potatoes that he imported to Ireland.

The History of Killua Castle

Killua Castle’s story begins in 1667 when Benjamin Chapman, an army captain under Oliver Cromwell, was granted ownership of the castle and its vast surrounding lands. While the castle we see today took shape around 1780, it underwent several expansions as it passed through generations of the Chapman family.

This family had intriguing connections to prominent historical figures, such as Sir Walter Raleigh and Lawrence of Arabia. Lawrence never lived at the castle but did visit it and was inspired by its splendor.

For many years, Killua Castle lay in ruins, a silent witness to its bygone glory. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that new owners took up the mantle of restoring the castle to its former splendor. 

The Death of Jacky Dalton

One of the most intriguing tales associated with Killua Castle revolves around Benjamin Chapman’s land steward, Jacky Dalton that was working there in the late 18th century. This land steward is described as a short man with a charismatic and jovial personality. With his wild yellow wig and bagpipe skills, he became a beloved presence among Chapman and his guests.

However, Dalton’s loyalty would ultimately waver and end up betraying his master. Because the man was also described as a small cunning man with weasel eyes. He deceived Chapman and embezzled his wealth for his own gain and drinking habits. Regret and guilt would haunt him in the years to come, particularly after his master’s passing. 

Consumed by remorse, Dalton turned to heavy drinking, and his life spiraled out of control. There was no more of his cheerful disposition and music in the halls of Killua Castle anymore. Tragically, he met his end by drowning himself in the castle’s lake.

The Haunting of Killua Castle

Ever since then, it is believed that he has been haunting the estate. Over the years, witnesses have reported eerie sightings of a spectral figure on the grounds of Killua Castle. 

This apparition is described as a man with yellowish hair, an eerie reminder of Jacky Dalton. Whether he roams the estate seeking redemption or simply to remind us of his tragic tale remains a mystery.

The Barranco de Badajoz is a ravine found south of Tenerife on the Canary Islands in Spain, close to Güimar. It can only be reached by car via the road that goes to the volcano. Many years ago, the place was known for the mining in the ravine walls. The ravine itself holds a rich history, with tales of hidden treasures and supernatural occurrences. However, it is the stories surrounding the glowing people that truly capture the imagination.

It is in these ravines we have found Guanche mummies from the aboriginal people that were the ancient inhabitants of Tenerife.

Numerous legends come from this place, where angelic beings, UFO’s and Satanic rituals and other paranormal phenomena. But no stranger story is the stories about the glowing people found in one of the mines in the ravine. 

The Glowing People in the Ravine: Legends and Encounters

One of the mysterious legends about Barranco de Badajoz revolves around the strange lights and glowing beings that people claim to have seen in the ravine, especially in the mines in the cave known as Cueva del Cañizo. 

These beings are said to wear white and have an otherworldly glow that captivates all who lay eyes upon them. Witnesses describe them as silent observers, watching intently without making any discernible movements. Some even claim to have had conversations with these ethereal creatures, forever altering their perception of reality.

The Missing Girl with the Pears in the Mines of Barranco de Badajoz

The most perplexing tale is that of a 15-year-old girl who vanished while playing in the ravine, searching for pears. This was supposedly in the 1890s. They looked for her all over the ravines, but she was nowhere to be found.  

For 30 years, her disappearance remained a haunting mystery until she resurfaced and came home, knocking on her parents door, not a day older than when she went missing. When questioned about her whereabouts, she shared a chilling account of her encounter with the glowing people. Apparently she fell asleep at the foot of the pear tree and was awakened by a tall being wearing all white. 

She claimed that they took her to a cave where she claimed there was a large garden filled with these beings, where they conversed with her for a brief moment before she was returned home. To her astonishment, she discovered that three decades had passed in the span of those fleeting moments.

Parallel Dimensions: A Gateway to the Unknown

What could possibly be happening within the ravine and its mysterious caves? The strange stories and legends surrounding Barranco de Badajoz have led many to believe that the cave acts as a gateway to a parallel dimension or world from which these enigmatic beings originate. The notion of parallel dimensions has long fascinated humanity, and the experiences shared by witnesses in the vicinity of the ravine only fuel these speculative theories.

In 1912, the workers in the deeper mines stumbled upon a landslide near the ravine at sunset. Intrigued, they began to dig and unearthed a ladder that seemingly emerged from the deepest depths of the cave. Curiosity getting the best of them, they descended and were met with the sight of two glowing beings dressed in white. These beings watched them intently, neither moving nor uttering a single word. Filled with fear, the workers fled and reported their encounter to the Civil Guard. However, upon returning to the spot where they had seen the creatures, there was no trace of them.

We don’t have a paper trail with the Civil Guard to prove the story, but the galleries in the mines were abandoned after the walls collapsed in the landslide and filled with water. 

A Modern-Day Mystery: The Legacy of the Glowing People

Today, the Barranco de Badajoz has become a popular hiking area, attracting adventurers from far and wide. Yet, even in modern times, reports of strange phenomena continue to emerge from those who venture close to the ravine. From inexplicable lights that dance in the darkness to an overwhelming feeling of being watched, the allure of the glowing people persists. These encounters leave witnesses in a state of awe and intrigue, forever questioning the boundaries of our reality.

According to the legend there was a local custom for brides to jump over the Palencia River to prove their love and have a happy marriage. A fun and harmless tradition. A girl would find a narrow point in the river and jump over it in front of the villagers.

In the misty mornings on Saturday, some talk about seeing the ghost of one of the former horses of the The Royal Calcutta Turf Club, still racing, long after losing the title of being the Queen of Track. 

The club is a horse racing organization founded back during the British Raj in 1847. It became the forefront runner for all horses racing on the subcontinent that decided the rules of the game as well as hosting polo matches. The races at Royal Calcutta Turf Club were seen as the most important events to socialize and always opened by the Viceroy of India.

Today, the Royal Calcutta Turf Club is still in operation as a private club and holds races in Kolkata Race Course in Maidan with most races held on Saturdays. 

The Ghost Haunting the Royal Calcutta Turf Club

Legend has it that within the grounds of the Turf Club, there is a ghost roaming the old tracks. The ghost is not human though, but rather a white horse that was once known as the Queen of Tracks. 

The tale traces back to the heyday of George Williams in the 1930s when there were high stakes and a lot of money to be made at the races at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club.

Williams was a man consumed by an insatiable passion for horse racing. Williams, a regular patron of the Turf Club and owner of several horses, was known for his prized possession: a magnificent white stallion named Pride. Or was Pride really a stallion, sources varies, calling the horse she as well at times. 

Pride was no ordinary horse; he was a symbol of Williams’ glory days at the racetrack, winning him race after race with unmatched speed and grace. According to the legend, Williams loved his horse more than anything, including his own family and spent all of his time in the stables.

However, as time wore on, Pride’s once-mighty strides faltered, and he began to show signs of age and weakness. Despite his diminishing prowess, Williams remained fiercely loyal to his equine companion, refusing to retire him from the track. It is said that in the final match of the Annual Calcutta Derby, the horse lost and Williams also lost a fortune that day.

Tragedy struck one fateful day when Pride was discovered lifeless on the racecourse. According to the story, the horse was found with bullet wounds in the head and it was believed that Williams had killed the horse as it was no longer winning races, as the tradition was. Some even said the horse was killed in drunken frustration by Williams when he lost his money.

It was not the last race for Pride though if we are to believe the stories. Locals whispered of seeing a ghostly apparition – a glowing white horse – galloping across the racecourse on moonlit Saturday nights, its ethereal presence a haunting reminder of Pride’s untimely demise.

The locals know of this spirit as “William Saheb er Sada Ghora” – or “Sir William’s white horse.”

In the Sabatini’s Customs Office in Madrid the people working there think it is haunted by the victims of the Spanish Civil War that died in the basement. Loud noises, banging and strange noises have made the guards making their rounds filled with fear.

Constructed by the renowned architect Francisco de Sabatini under the orders of King Charles III, this monumental structure holds immense historical significance. In a former church with a haunted rumor in Granada, they did some renovations when it was turned to house the Provincial Council of Granada and found something disturbing under the foundations of The Buried Bones. Human remains were discovered and gave an answer to just who had haunted the building for centuries. 

Granada, a city steeped in history and Moorish heritage, boasts several haunted buildings that have fascinated locals and visitors alike. Among these enigmatic structures, one stands out on Calle Mesones, downtown. What started as a Moorish hermitage later transformed into the church of St. Magdalena and now serves as a council building. This historic landmark holds a dark secret that has intrigued and unsettled those who have delved into its mysteries.

After the church buildings were privatized, the church was converted into a fabric warehouse and it was said that it was haunted already then. The people that worked there didn’t dare to go inside except for in pairs because of all the strange things that happened in the warehouse where they kept fabric.

The rolls of fabric would keep falling over together as strange noises filled the building with an eerie sensation. 

The Buried Bones Unearthed: A Sinister Discovery

The same thing is said to have been reported when the Woolworth Chain took over the building. The lights kept turning on and off as well as objects having a life of their own. They closed seven years later and it is said that when they locked the door, the lights turned on. But nothing was as frightening as what they found when they renovated the place. 

During renovations on the old building of the Provincial Council of Granada, a shocking discovery sent chills down the spines of the workers. Beneath the weathered walls and crumbling foundations, human bones were unearthed—many of them belonging to children. The sheer number of bones found within the building was unnerving, raising questions about the building’s history and the stories it held within its silent walls.

This macabre find added fuel to the haunting tales that had circulated for years. Workers who had spent time within the building claimed to have experienced strange occurrences—gusts of wind from nowhere, flickering lights, and an unsettling presence that permeated the air. These paranormal phenomena only added to the building’s reputation as a place shrouded in darkness and mystery.

When the council moved into the building, the staff continued to walk in pairs, and the security guards in the night kept leaving one by one. It is said that the only one that dared to keep working there was a deaf employee that couldn’t hear all of the sounds that seemed to come from the building.

There is the Dalmau de Queral i Codina who was the Count of Santa Coloma. He was the viceroy of Catalonia and got caught up in the revolt of the Reapers in 1640. An angry mob got hold of him and he was lynched at the foot of the hill of the cemetery. His legend is known as the Ghost of Morrot and he is thought to be haunting the cemetery. 

The Grave of Ms Amalia Domingo Soler

There are many curious graves at the cemetery, among them you can for instance find the grave of Enriqueta Marti, otherwise known as The Vampire of the Raval for her crimes.  

Montjuïc Cemetery: The haunted cemeteries in Barcelona holds many graves that are said to have strange things happening to them. Many notorious and people with ties to the occult and paranormal are buried her, among them, many from the spiritualist community.

One of the strange graves you can find walking to the Vial Sant Jaume on the Agrupacio XI on tomb NO. 35. In this place, Ms. Amalia Domingo Soler has her final resting place. She was a writer, women rights activist as well as a medium in the late 1800s. 

Soler was famous for her channeling of a Father Germano, a ghost that had come to her and acted as her spiritual guide. 

After she died she was buried on a plot of land for people that didn’t really morally align with the times. It was a place for anarchists and working class advocates. It was also where they buried executed people as well as Jews. The very name Montjuïc means Mountain of the Jews in old Catalan.

The Grave of Spiritist Jose Maria Fernandes Colavida

Interestingly, Ms. Soler’s grave is located in close proximity to another spiritist, Jose Maria Fernandes Colavida. Together, their graves create an atmosphere of otherworldly energy, drawing paranormal enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.

It is claimed by those that visit the place, the graves around that area are often said to appear more cracked and disarranged than they should.

Because of its rumors and legends that have started to grow around the hotel like its surrounding trees, hiding it from the world, the Sina Hotel has mostly gone under names like Ghost Hotel or Devil’s Hotel. 

The Murder of the Owner

Adding to the mystery of its haunted rumors, it is widely believed that the property’s original owners met a violent end. And that one of the reasons of why the hotel project was abandoned was because one of the owners was murdered. 

But who are the owners who are very hard to find information on. There is no clear evidence that there ever was a murder. And what about the name, Sina Hotel. Does it have anything to do with the tiny village in Russia? Or perhaps more likely, the Italian Sina Hotel, a chain of luxury hotels around the world?

Since then, tales of ghostly apparitions and unexplained phenomena have plagued the site. Locals believe that it could be the spirit of the alleged murdered owner that is still lingering on the premise.

The Haunted Hotel in the Jungle

Visitors to the Ghost Hotel at the end of the beach inside of the jungle frequently report unsettling experiences. The most commonly sighted apparition is that of the hotel’s former owner. Descriptions of his ghostly form vary, but many claim to have seen a figure wandering the derelict hallways and grounds. Paranormal investigators, both amateur and professional, flock to the site, eager to capture evidence of the hotel’s spectral inhabitants. Equipped with cameras, recording devices, and other ghost-hunting gear, they explore the dilapidated rooms and corridors, hoping to document the elusive spirits that are said to dwell there.

There have also been many cases of squatters and homeless people taking refuge and at least for a time being, making the hotel a home. Most often there is someone staying at the hotel and demand money from people that dare to enter.

The Haunted Ghost Hotel

The skeletal remains of the hotel loom large against the Goan skyline, its incomplete and crumbling architecture adding to the atmosphere of desolation and dread. Overgrown vegetation has reclaimed much of the property, with vines creeping over the once-grand structures and wild plants sprouting through cracks in the concrete. This natural reclamation only heightens the sense of abandonment and eeriness that pervades the site.

The haunted Isla de Pedrosa was a place of isolation. First for sailors with exotic diseases, then as a children’s sanatorium for those suffering from strange afflictions. In the later years it has been thought to be haunted by those isolated on the island that took those unwanted by the rest of society.  

Off the coast of Cantabria, the Isla Pedrosa sits as a dark spot on the blue ocean. The island has become known as Isla Embrujada, or the haunted islands because of the strange things that are said to have taken place there.

Isolated places were in old times used as a precaution to illnesses since the time of the Black Death and often deserted islands close to the ports were used to hinder any diseases from oncoming ships. These places are called lazarettos, taken from the Bible story about the man that rose from the dead. The most famous Lazaretto is perhaps the haunted Poveglia Island in Venice.

Lazaretto: Isla de Pedrosa was for a long time used as a lazaretto for ships that came from exotic places to quarantine and prevent bringing any illness into port.

In the 19th century, Isla de Pedrosa took on a new role as a place to house sailors and other individuals suffering from exotic diseases from 1834 to help battle the diseases like yellow fever from America for instance as well as smallpox, tuberculosis, cholera and leprosy. The isolation of the island made it an ideal location for quarantine, protecting the mainland from potential outbreaks. It is said that during this time, many tragic events occurred on the island, leaving behind a haunting presence that still lingers today.

In the first decade of the 20th century it was converted from a lazaretto into a maritime children’s sanatorium. It could house over 200 children from almost half of Spain by 1910. First and foremost it was in an effort to combat tuberculosis. It wasn’t the only illness though and it operated until 1989. 

The Haunting Legends of Isla de Pedrosa

Visitors to the theater have reported hearing disembodied voices and footsteps, as well as seeing apparitions moving across the stage. The Bird Girls on Isla de Pedrosa

These two sisters were said to have lived on the island during the time it served as a quarantine facility sometimes in the 1960s. They were born with a rare disease called progeria that made them somehow look like birds. 

This appearance led superstitious people to speculate that their conditions were caused by the devil himself.

According to the legend, the Bird Girls were isolated from society and hidden away on the island and they tragically died very young, perhaps because of their affliction. Visitors to Isla de Pedrosa have reported seeing the ghostly figures of these sisters roaming the shores, their deformed bodies reminiscent of bird-like creatures. The presence of the Bird Girls adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to the island’s haunted reputation.

People Experiencing Paranormal Activity

There are plenty of people that claim to have experienced something paranormal on this island. A paranormal seeker named Anita Lauda claims to have seen spirits of children coming towards them accompanied by a nurse after an Ouija board session.

In present times, Isla de Pedrosa is mostly abandoned, with only a few buildings still in use. Some of these buildings now house juvenile prisoners and serve as a reintegration center. The island’s dark past and haunted reputation make it an eerie and unsettling place for those who reside there.

The Tragic History of Los Rodeos Airport

To understand the haunted reputation of Los Rodeos Airport, we must delve into its tragic history. One event, in particular, stands out as the catalyst for the ghostly encounters that plague the terminal to this day – the Tenerife airport disaster of 1977.

On that fateful day, March 27th a bomb was set off by the Canary Islands Independence Movement at Gran Canaria Airport not far from Tenerife. This caused too many flights to be diverted to Los Rodeos. It was also a thick fog that clouded the vision of an already very chaotic situation. KLM Flight 4805 initiated its takeoff run while Pan Am Flight 1736 was still on the runway. The two airplanes collided on the runway, resulting in the deadliest aviation accidents in history. 

The Tragic Accident: The Tenerife Airport accident was the most deadliest in history and left only a few survivors, and according to the stories, many ghosts.

The collision claimed the lives of at least 583 people, leaving behind a trail of sorrow and despair. Only 61 people survived that day as they were seated in the front section of the aircraft. It is said that the spirits of those who perished in the disaster still linger within the airport, unable to find peace.

Another legend revolves around the military barracks at Garita Sur, located near the airport. It is believed that soldiers stationed there have witnessed ghostly apparitions of a young girl wandering alone and unexplained phenomena. 

Confused Pilots Seeing things on the Runway

Several pilots that have taken the flights to and from this airport have claimed that more than one of the souls from the crash is still haunting the airport. One pilot said that a lot of the spirits would appear and according to him, he claimed that he had delayed at least two takeoffs because he thought he saw figures on the runway, waving their hands as if warning of something dangerous ahead.

Pilot’s Tell: In the early morning hours or in the late darkness, several pilots tells about seeing things that aren’t really there on the runway on this airport.
