Ledgelawn Summer Estate and the Bridal Ghost in the Attic

In a former summer house for the rich and wealthy in Maine, the Ledgelawn Summer Estate has long been thought to be haunted by the ghost of Mary Margaret, the jilted bride haunting the house wearing her wedding dress.

Built in 1904 in the seaside town of Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island in Maine, Ledgelawn Summer Estate was one of the original grand summer estates from the Gilded Age in the harbor for the elite that used to spend their summer here by the sea.

Ledgelawn Estate is a 21-room shingle-style cottage on Mount Desert Street, found close to the church. They used to call these estates for the cottages where the rich summered and it is said that this building is the most haunted one in Bar Harbor and a story all the locals know about.

Bar Harbor: On Mount Desert Island in Maine you will find Bar Harbor where the Ledgelawn Summer Estate is. There are many places in this picturesque said to be haunted.

The Haunted Ledgelawn Summer Estate

The red building built for the wealthy summer visitors in 1904 was built upon something older, equally a mystery as the supposed haunting. It is said to be haunted by the woman in white known as Mary Margaret. According to legend, she was jilted just about to get married. 

Most of the variations of the stories tell that Mary Margaret was a dark haired beauty from that time, a member of the rich and powerful Astor family, or at least related to them.

Her soon to be husband took off right before their wedding and left her alone. Mary Margaret took this so hard and went straight up to the third floor, dressed herself in her wedding dress before hanging herself from the rafters in the attic with her wedding veil.

It is said that when her family found her, her face was so bruised, they almost didn’t recognize her. Her lips curled up to a smile. She has ever since then lingered and haunted the Ledgelawn Summer Estate through the years. 

The Haunting of Mary Margaret

Although her death is said to have happened in the attic of Ledgelawn Summer Estate, she is most often seen on the third floor. Her ghost is said to be transparent and floating about, returning to the place she died again and again.

The former summer estate used to be an inn and there is a particular one story from this time that is retold. Back then, the place used to be called Ledgelawn Inn and it was said that room 326 was the place she most often appeared. 

Guests checking in or staff working there would often get an ominous and gloomy feeling before claiming to see the ghost of a woman floating at the foot at their bed or even a ghostly wedding veil was coming from the ceiling and swaying in the night. 

According to this guest, the ghost got into bed with him. Scared of what happened he tried to ignore her lying next to him and simply rolled over, petrified and didn’t dare to open his eyes.

The dramatic ghost of Mary Margaret is supposedly not the only ghost said to haunt the Ledgelawn Summer Estate. Apparently there is also a former maid most often called Catherine said to be haunting the former summer house and former inn. 

It is said that she had an affair with the owner of the house at the time and became pregnant while working there. The story is often been told to have happened in the 1930s. She died after falling down the stairs in the back. If she fell or if she were pushed is up for debate and was hushed up at the time. 

In addition to the women said to haunt the Ledgelawn Summer Estate there is also a child said to haunt the cupboard he hides in. According to the stories, he drowned somewhere in Bar Harbor. 

The Truth Behind the Legends

So how true is this very specific story said to haunt the Ledgelawn Summer Estate? The historic inn was bought by a firm in 2010, ending its time as an inn. 

The story behind the house is that Ledge Lawn was built by Samuel Willard Bridgham and Fanny Shermerhorn in the beginnings of the 1900s. Fanny was related to the Astors, a family filled with money and scandals. Samuel and Fanny though were known to be kind people, didn’t have any children and other mysterious deaths happening inside of their home. 

So what about the ghost that people keep seeing? Could it just be a trick your mind plays you when staying in an old building, and a local story told for fun in a sleepy seaside town. Or could it be something that the history didn’t record or where the details and facts have become distorted over time?

The sound of ghostly clicking of heels is said to roam the Morgan House in Kalimpong in India. It is said that it is the ghost of the wife that died prematurely under mysterious circumstances. 

Amidst the serene Durpindara Hill of Kalimpong, the Morgan House Tourist Lodge stands as an enchanting old British residence, shrouded in history, charm, and a whisper of the supernatural with a view of the Kangchenjunga mountain range. 

Built in the 1930s in the border town in West-Bengal, this beautiful property was once the cherished abode of an Englishman in the jute trade, George Morgan and his wife who owned an indigo plantation. Her name is not easily found and not mentioned. The Morgan House Tourist Lodge was built for their wedding and marital happy life. But if their marriage in fact were happy has been up for debate.

Its architecture and ambiance transport visitors back to a time when the British Empire left an indelible mark on the Indian subcontinent of a bygone era.

After the wife died a premature death, Mr. Morgan left their home soon after and the mansion was left deserted as no one from the Morgan family wanted to live in it as they had no direct heirs, only trustees. In the end it was handed to the Indian government after independence and the Bengal Tourism Board decided to start a hotel in the old mansion. 

The Legend of Lady Morgan’s Ghost

Visitors and guests who have ventured to stay within The Morgan House Tourist Lodge have, on occasion, experienced encounters like the sound of laughter, weeping or even singing and screaming inside the hotel. As per local legends, Lady Morgan’s spirit lingers within the walls of this old British house, walking the corridors in a timeless search for solace or an unfinished business.

It is said that Mrs Morgan died suddenly in the Morgan House and perhaps for a dark reason. Perhaps it was by suicide by hanging herself in room 101 as most reports about the hotel clams, and the most extreme legends claim that she was tortured to death by her husband, or at least drove her to suicide in the mansion. 

The ghostly apparition of Lady Morgan, as the stories go, makes her presence known in the Morgan House through mysterious footsteps echoing across the wooden floors of the lodge. She is seen floating up to the second floor where she allegedly died. 

Those who have listened closely claim that the footsteps distinctly sound like someone walking in high-heels.

The Ghost of from Landslide

There is a second theory about the haunting, and that is the buried bodies under the Morgan House. Apparently there was a massive landslide at the hill before the mansion was built. The dead people were caught under it and they were unable to dig them out. Instead the mansion was built on top of them. 

Some of the guests that have stayed at Morgan House, brought up their concerns about the ghosts lingering there. Some of them have been handed a bible to carry around with them for help.

An Enduring Enigma of The Morgan House Tourist Lodge

The Morgan House Tourist Lodge in Kalimpong continues to be a place of intrigue and fascination for travelers. And as of now, their old bedroom and most talked about room of 101 where Mrs Morgan allegedly hanged herself is one of the more popular rooms at the hotel.  

The question of whether Lady Morgan’s spirit truly lingers here or if the sounds are a product of the imagination to the guests remains unanswered. Yet, it is the allure of the unexplained that draws curious souls to this historic hill station retreat.

Haunted Nights in the Closed Room in Raj Kiran Hotel

In the small village Lonavala in Pune, there is a small hotel where the reviews claim it’s haunted. Although no backstories are given, guests complained so much about a room in particular the staff closed it off. Would you dare to check into the haunted Raj Kiran Hotel?

India, a land of diverse landscapes and cultures, is often associated with age-old tales of the supernatural, or dramatic events from colonial times. While many of these stories originate from places of great historic importance, there are exceptions and even seemingly ordinary buildings in small places can come with a haunted story.

One such exception is the Raj Kiran Hotel in Maharashtra, a petite establishment that used to be in the picturesque town of Lonavala in the Pune district with two floors. During monsoon season the weather is pleasant and green around the hill station and there are several hotels in Lonavala to accommodate this. Like the Raj Kiran hotel that used to be found just by the main street.

Used to, because the hotel looks like it is no longer in operation, and comparing the maps to Google maps, it looks like the entire building is gone as well in 2014. The story about it continues though, and even reviews on other hotels in Lonavala retell the haunted rumors that once belonged to this particular hotel.

Surprisingly, there is no known story or legend attached to the Raj Kiran Hotel that might explain the supernatural occurrences within its walls. Instead, it’s the guests who have ventured into this unassuming abode who share the hair-raising tales of their stay and ended up on more than one list of India’s most haunted.

Among the unsettling accounts, one room on the ground floor, situated next to the reception counter, emerges as the epicenter of paranormal activity. Many have reported experiencing unexplained phenomena within its confines, enough to leave them tossing and turning through sleepless nights.

According to the rumors, the haunted room is a room in a corner behind the reception at the hotel. Numerous guests have reported a peculiar occurrence – their bed sheets being tugged off during the dead of night. It’s as if an invisible presence were pulling the sheets, leaving startled occupants in sheer disbelief.

For some, the night takes an eerie turn as they suddenly awaken to a surreal sight – a mysterious ray of blue light illuminating the area around their feet. The source of this uncanny radiance remains a perplexing mystery.

Perhaps the most unsettling encounter is the sighting of an indiscernible apparition that seems to float through the room’s darkness. Guests have recounted the unnerving experience of witnessing an inexplicable presence making its presence known in the dead of night.

In light of the inexplicable incidents that have unfolded within this room, it has earned a notorious reputation and even the reviews for it people claim it is haunted. As a result, hotel management has taken the extraordinary step of permanently locking this room. It is no longer available for rent, as the unsettling encounters have left guests with restless nights and enduring unease.

The Raj Kiran Hotel doesn’t boast historical significance or a well-documented ghostly legend, so it’s hard to pinpoint the background story for the potential haunting. 

Where, what and who is behind the haunting the hotel in the lush green valleys remains a mystery.

The world’s biggest film city is allegedly a haunted one. It is rumored that Ramoji Film City is built upon a battlefield drenched in the blood of the old Nizam warriors from the Hyderabad Empire. They are reportedly haunting the place, sometimes even thought to be dangerous for the actors and crew. 

Ramoji Film City, located in Hyderabad, India, is one of the largest film cities in the world. Guinness World Records actually says it is the largest. It spans over 2,000 acres and has been the backdrop for many blockbuster films like Bahubali: The Beginning (2015), The Dirty Picture (2011), Ghajini (2008), Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006). 

Ramoji Film City: One of the more haunted places is the film city found in Hyderabad in India. Even some of the high profile actors claim that something is going on around the movie sets.

Ramoji Film City was established in 1996 by the renowned film producer Ramoji Rao who wanted to have something similar to Hollywood in India as well.

Amidst the glitz and glamor of this sprawling complex though is not just a hub of creativity and entertainment; it is also home to some of the most chilling legends and ghostly sightings according to the old legends.

The Ghost of the Nizam Warriors

Nizam Warriors: The Film city is supposedly built on top of battlefields where the Nizam warriors died.

When they built the film city it is said that the builders kept the land as it was without removing one tree or mountain to keep the spiritual peace of the place. Even though they didn’t take out any of the trees, it looks like something is wrong about the place. 

It is reportedly said that the film city is built on grounds where Nizams of Hyderabad fought and died. It is said that the spirits of those soldiers fallen in those battles are still wandering restlessly there. 

The Nizam of Huderabad was the ruler of the Hyderabad State until it became a part of the Maratha Confederacy after they lost in the 18th century.

They also fought in the Anglo-Maratha War where they became under British rule. Needless to say that there were plenty of wars throughout the times for the Nizam warriors to have fallen in. 

The Paranormal Experiences of Visitors and Employees

Many visitors and employees of Ramoji Film City have reported paranormal experiences at the haunted spots. Some have reported seeing ghostly figures, hearing strange noises, and feeling a cold breeze. Some have even claimed to have had conversations with the ghosts allegedly haunting the place. 

According to reports about the hauntings people often mention the incident when a chandelier fell from the ceiling. And it seems that the alleged haunting going on inside of Ramoji Film City is connected to lights.

Staff working with the light in the film city have claimed to have been pushed from the heights and gotten severely injured. There are also other types of crew that tell about the same thing and their clothes being ripped by something invisible. 

Lights are known to turn on and off at random, the gates are getting locked on their own, and there is the case with the strange writing in the mirror in Urdu. A lot of the scary things are centered around the mirrors and many actors have reportedly seen strange things when getting ready for a shoot and looking in the mirror. 

People have also heard strange voices and something whispering in Urdu, at least a couple of tourists staying in the guesthouse.  

Scaring a Bollywood Superstar

Actress Tapsee Pannu is one of those that claim to have experienced something paranormal in the film city.

The actor in Pink, Tapsee Pannu talked about her own haunted experience when she stayed at one of the hotels in the film city. 

“Firstly, I am extremely scared of ghosts, and I do believe that they exist. Personally, I felt something in my room when I was staying at a hotel in Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. I had heard stories earlier of the hotel being haunted.”

This she shared in an interview in 2022. She was alone in her room and heard footsteps echoing and getting closer. She got scared and instead of finding out what was going on in her room, she forced herself to sleep. She said herself:

“There was no way I could fight a ghost.”

Ramoji Film City is not just a hub of creativity and entertainment. It is also home to some of the most chilling legends and ghostly sightings told from both the crew working in the shadows behind the camera as well as from the stars in front of them. And if we are to believe the rumors, the ghosts found in the film city are not necessarily just in the movies.

After being killed in the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 at the Brij Raj Bhavan Palace Heritage Hotel many years ago, the ghost of the British Major is said to still haunt his old palace. 

The Brij Raj Bhavan Heritage Hotel, a stunning palace that has been converted into a luxurious hotel in Kota in Rajasthan, India. But this hotel is not just any ordinary lodging; it is steeped in a haunting history that will send shivers down your spine.

Once the residence of the Maharaja of Kota on the banks of Chambal River, this opulent palace has witnessed some of the most gruesome and chilling events in India’s history. From the massacre of British officers to the brutal execution of a loyal servant, the walls of this palace hold many secrets. 

History of Brij Raj Bhavan Palace

The colonial Brij Raj Bhavan Heritage Hotel is a historic palace that dates back to the 1830  to serve as a residence to British officials. It was built by the East India Company and called the Agency Bungalow initially.  

The building was taken over by the Kota state in 1900 and the current Maharaja of Kota took over the building in 1956 and turned it into the hotel it is today together with his family. 

The Indian Rebellion Comes to Kota

The Brij Raj Bhavan Heritage Hotel has a dark history that is steeped in violence and bloodshed. Many people believe that the ghosts of those who died in the palace still haunt its halls and corridors. One of the most famous ghost stories associated with the palace is that of Major Charles Burton, a British officer who was killed during the Indian Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. 

The Sepoy Mutiny: Sparked by various grievances among Indian soldiers (sepoys) serving in the British East India Company’s army, the rebellion quickly spread across northern and central India. What began as a mutiny within the military ranks soon escalated into a widespread revolt against British authority, with civilians joining the cause. Although the rebellion was ultimately quelled by British forces, its legacy continues to resonate as a symbol of resistance and the fight for independence in India.

He was of the 40th Bengal Native Infantry. He and his family had lived at the palace for 13 years with his wife, four sons and a teenage daughter. While staying at Neemuch with his entire family, the Indians had a mutiny and the Burton’s fled to a small fort of Jewud. 

Discontent with the British had been brewing for a while, but rumors that the British was planning to convert Hindus and Muslims to Christians by mixing cows in flour and lace their weapons in cow and pork fat, fueled it into a full on mutiny. 

However, the Maharaja of Kota told him to return and together with his two younger sons, Arthur of 21 and Francis of 19, he went back to Kota in December. It seemed peaceful and there were no signs of mutiny. Then he saw approaching riders and he thought his good friend the Maharaja had come to visit him. 

But it wasn’t a friendly visit, it was a mutiny. A group of Indian soldiers broke in and attacked the palace. All of the servants left and it was only him, his sons and a camel-driver who were up against the troops. It was a 5 hour fight, before Burton started pleading for his son’s life against him. 

Their pleas were not heard though and the soldiers found them in a room where they had taken refuge and killed them all. After the murder the dead bodies were given to the Maharaja of Kota and buried in the Kota cemetery. Although rumor has it that they were actually buried in the central hall of the palace.

Kota itself wasn’t retaken by the British until the following March and two years later, two of the leaders of the mutiny were found and hanged on the grounds of the mansion, seen as martyrs of the freedom movement in India. 

The Haunting of the Brij Raj Bhavan Palace

According to legend it didn’t take long until the haunting began and Major Burton’s spirit still wanders the palace, dressed in his red coat and carrying a sword. Some guests have reported seeing him in the corridors, while others claim to have heard his footsteps in the dead of night.

It is said he is a harmless ghost despite how violent it all ended but is allegedly very strict about discipline inside the building. It is said he slaps guards that fall asleep while on duty. There are also those guards claiming they got a massive scolding from him when not guarding their post well enough while on duty. 

The Ghost Inside the Room

During the 1930s, Iris Portal arrived in Kota with her family. Her father had been loaned by the Government of India to assist the Maharaja of Kota with a land settlement in the state. At the age of 17, she found herself spending the holiday at the Old Residency, which had been converted into a state guest house. Her assigned room was located on the first floor and had a distinctive layout, featuring four separate entrances, one of which led to an upstairs balcony, and two others connected to the roof.

This is the exact room where the Burtons had made a last-ditch stand. That particular night, although no apparitions were witnessed, was fraught with an eerie, bone-chilling sensation for Iris Portal, leaving her too frightened to sleep. The following day, she told her mother to move her to a different room.

It wasn’t until she returned to Delhi that Iris Portal discovered the haunting history of the Resident and his sons. In 1857, it was recounted that they had descended from the rooftops and met their tragic demise in the very room she had occupied during her stay at the Old Residency.

The Haunting in 1980s

The supposed haunting have been said to have gone on well into the 21st century. The crown Princess of Kota, Yuvrani was quoted in the British journalist, Ann Morrows book, The Maharajas of India:

“As far as we know, he (Major Burton) is an elderly man with white hair and a walking stick. I have seen him myself, because he was murdered in the first floor bedroom, which is now my study. The trouble with Major Burton is that he never goes off duty. He wanders around the palace and if he catches a servant asleep, gives him a quick slap on the cheek. He is the only restless soul around in summer, when it can be like furnace in Kota”

Cabra Castle and the Ghost of the Poor Servant Girl

At the old Cabra Castle, once known as Cormey Castle, it is said that the ghost of an unfortunate servant girl is haunting it’s hall. She was brutally murdered by the castle owners when they found out she was bearing one of the heirs’ children. 

In the heart of Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, stands Cabra Castle—a place where history, beauty, and the supernatural intertwine, casting an enchanting but eerie spell close to the Dún a Rí Forest . 

Cabra Castle is given to two castles in this area. One is now only ruins, the other one is turned into a luxury hotel. The centuries-old castle has captured the imagination of travelers and ghost enthusiasts alike, earning a reputation as one of the most haunted hotels in the world, according to a chilling 2010 Trip Advisor ranking.

Today it is a hotel as it has been since the 90s, but before that it used to be the land of the O’Reilly clan. This was until Oliver Cromwell took control in the 1600s. The original castle from before this time was destroyed and Cabra House was built on top of the ruins. The ruins of the original Cabra House, or Cabra Castle, can be seen on a slight height near the Wishing Well in what is now Dún a’ Rí Forest Park, formerly part of the Cabra Estate.

The rebuilt castle was then called Cormy Castle and the Foster family lived there when the supposed ghost story is said to have happened. The main building was in ruins, destroyed during the Cromwellian War, however, its adjacent courtyard remained in good repair.

A Tale of Forbidden Love

In the 1780s, the castle’s owners had a son who found his heart entwined with that of a servant girl named Sarah. Who this was is not specified, but it is known that John Tomas Foster was the one that took over the castle in 1795, but died shortly after. Although he is not named in any of the stories, he is the heir around that time. If there ever worked a girl named Sarah during that time, is not found any proof of though. 

According to the legend, they managed to keep their relationship a secret for a while, but secrets have a way of unveiling themselves when the truth cannot remain hidden. Sarah’s secret was revealed when she discovered she was with child, a revelation that would prove catastrophic for her and her lover.

A Tragic End

The heir’s family, driven by property and social standing, decreed that Sarah must be silenced. In a macabre turn of events, Sarah was taken from the servants’ quarters of Cabra Castle and dragged into the nearby forest, perhaps the Dún a Rí Forest, where they murdered her and her unborn child.

Legends recount that Sarah met a gruesome end, her lifeless form hanging over a bridge in the dark heart of the forest. But it is said that her spirit did not rest, and the echoes of her tragic tale continue to haunt Cabra Castle to this day.

Sarah’s Bridge: In the Dún a Rí Forest, there is a bridge called Sarah’s Bridge, constructed in 1801, was named in memory of Sarah Mountmorris, who married into the Pratt family. Local legend, on the other hand, tells about a Sarah who had been meeting her boyfriend on the bridge for nearly three decades. Visitors to Cabra Castle have reported spine-chilling experiences, where the past and present intersect in eerie ways. In the stillness of the night, some claim to have heard the haunting cries of a baby—an unsettling reminder of the pain and sorrow that once unfolded here.

The courtyard rooms hold their own secrets, with numerous accounts of guests sensing an unexplained “presence” nearby. These encounters have left many with an indelible sense of the uncanny, especially in the courtyard rooms and near the Hanging Tree that is found on the ground. In some version of the story it was from this tree that she was hanged.

But the ghost of the unfortunate servant girl is not the only ghost said to haunt the old castle. One guest recounted an encounter with a man clad in the uniform of the early 20th century, striding purposefully down a corridor—a figure both mysterious and disconcerting.

The old Sierra Sky Ranch in the Sierra Nevada Mountains has had many people coming and going. From the tragic death of a farm hand to the victims of terminally ill tuberculosis patients, this historical hotel has some guests that never checked out. 

The Sierra Sky Ranch has stood witness to the ebb and flow of time ten miles from the south entrance to Yosemite National Park since its inception in 1875 and the original ranch house from 1900.

What began as a humble cattle ranch in the Sierra Nevada Mountains ended up as the area’s largest one before metamorphosed into a sanatorium for those afflicted by the scourge of tuberculosis in the 1930s until the 1940s.

The corridors of Sierra Sky Ranch echoed with the footsteps of children, innocent souls grappling with a relentless disease. From its time as a sanatorium it housed terminally ill patients until after the second world war when it was a halfway house for survivors.

Transitioning through the years, the ranch extended its healing touch to World War II veterans before evolving into the 29-room hotel it is today—a hotel that not only provides shelter to the living but also harbors the lingering spirits of the past.

Mostly the guests notice that a ghost could be haunting the room because of the smell of a perfume without anyone there, a piano that starts playing by itself and mysterious cloud-like things entering the room. There are also strange silhouettes that make guests and staff believe that the hotel is at least haunted by five different ghosts. 

The Ghost of the Farm Hand Elmer

The first and most likely the oldest ghost haunting the Sierra Sky Ranch hotel is thought to be Elmer, who was the original ranch hand when the ranch first opened. 

It is said old Elmer spent so much time in solitude and he started to drink and ended his life by hanging himself in a back tree at the property. Why he did as he did, no one knows, some claim that his home was sold off and he had no place to go. 

Another version of this story is that his ax slipped when chopping wood and he severed the main artery in his legs. He called for help but no one heard him and he bled to death. 

Many claim they can still hear his boots walking in the halls as well feeling a certain presence when they drink at the bar at Sierra Sky Ranch. 

The Haunted Bar: By the old bar at Sierra Sky Ranch it is believed that the old Elmer is haunting and has been seen wandering by the guests and staff. Source

The Ghost of the Nurse Sarah

Another ghost said to haunt the ranch is from the time when Sierra Sky Ranch was used as a sanatorium. Sarah was supposedly a nurse tending to the terminal patients and said to have a kind and calm presence, even in the way she is haunting the place. 

It is this ghost people write mostly about in the red guest book they use to collect all the strange and ghostly encounters guests have at Sierra Sky Ranch.  

The Ghosts of the Sickly Children

Sierra Sky Ranch is no stranger to the whispers of the supernatural, with reports of spectral activity painting an eerie portrait of its haunted legacy. At the heart of these ethereal tales are the “phantom children,” spirits of a bygone era who continue to frolic and play within the confines of the hotel. Guests and staff alike recount the unmistakable sounds of giggles and whispers reverberating through the halls.

A pair of ghosts are said to have been siblings in life, and are haunting together in their afterlife. They are said to be mischievous children that are playing and moving objects as the sound of them laughing and running is heard. 

Guests complain about the sound of children when there is no one there, or wake up and find two ghostly small silhouettes by the end of their beds. Staff finds doors they closed opened and objects around the hotel misplaced.

Its origins date back to the 12th century when it was constructed as a defensive stronghold. More than once the guests staying in the hotel have claimed to have seen ghosts. 

The Lady in White of the Castle

One of the most famous ghost stories associated with Parador Sigüenza Castle is the tale of the “Lady in White.” According to witnesses, a ghostly figure dressed in a flowing white gown has been spotted wandering the castle’s corridors late at night. Some believe this apparition to be the spirit of Doña Blanca de Borbón. 

Visitors have claimed to hear disembodied voices, whispers, and footsteps echoing through the empty halls. Some have even captured unexplained orbs and apparitions in their photographs.

Numerous witnesses have reported seeing the Lady in White, with some claiming to have had direct interactions with her. Visitors have also described peculiar sensations, such as sudden drops in temperature and feelings of being watched. There are also those who claim to have been woken up in their sleep of the clanking of chains coming from the corridor. 

The Tragic Life and Death of Doña Blanca de Borbón

It is believed that the ghost haunting the former castle is that of Doña Blanca de Borbón (1339-1361). She was a French noblewoman and the Queen consort of Castile. According to the tales, Pedro I of Castile incarcerated his wife Doña Blanca in the castle in 1355, to prevent her from serving to aid the nobles who wanted to overthrow him. He was later nicknamed Pedro the Cruel. 

She never wanted the marriage, but was forced by her father as well as the rest of her family to accept her faith. Her husband already had a lover and she was already a widow with no wish for another marriage to a strange man. 

Her husband also did not want to marry her because the King of France had trouble paying for her dowry. But political plots made her and they were wed and their wedding ceremony was held in Valladolid. 

The marriage failed though and she was cast aside only three days into the sham marriage. He abandoned her and fled with his lover instead.

When civil war broke out in Castile though the king ordered her to go into hiding. She decided to leave the place she was confined to and took refuge in a Cathedral to organize her followers and finance her cause in spite of her husband. They were now on opposite sides. She was then confined to the castle for years before being transferred to El Puerto de Santa Maria to prevent her being released to the Aragonese side that was fighting against the Castile. 

She was eventually assassinated by poison by the Castile side, either from the King’s personal doctor or even by an arrow to her heart by a crossbowman that had just become a new warden. She only got to live for 25 years before  being used as a plot for territory amongst two strange nations. Her last words were:  “Tell me Castilla, what have I done to you?”

There are also those thinking that she actually died in the dungeon her husband threw her down in the castle, surrounded by his knights. His method was often with a blow to the head which is also one of the theories. 

It is said that ever since, she has been haunting the castle that she was confined to for years. Sobbing as she is dragging her chains across the floors of the oh so wonderful historic hotel. 

A visit to Parador Sigüenza Castle

Parador Sigüenza Castle stands as a testament to the rich history and supernatural allure of Spain. The Haunting Tale of the Crashed Pilot by Wawona Hotel

It is said that a plane crashed in Yosemite and the pilot was rushed to Wawona Hotel in the park. Although he was quickly found, he died while waiting for a doctor and now it is said that he is haunting the same place he died. 

Amidst the meadows of Yosemite National Park, the historic Wawona Hotel stands as a beacon of hospitality for weary hikers. The Hotel itself opened in 1876 and is just four miles from the Yosemite National Park’s south entry.

Known as Pallachun by the Nootchu native tribe, meaning “a good place to stop,” by the indigenous inhabitants, the site eventually became the setting for a chilling tale that continues to haunt both staff and guests to this day.

The Plane Crash in Yosemite

In the shadow of the Wawona Hotel lies a story shrouded in tragedy—a tale of a pilot whose fate became forever entwined with the rugged landscape of Yosemite in the 1920s. South of the hotel, where the whispering pines cast their long shadows, the pilot’s plane met its untimely end, crashing amidst the towering trees of the national park.

The injured pilot was taken to Moore Cottage, alive but very injured. Moore Cottage is a modest abode nestled on a gentle slope behind the hotel’s main building. With the echoes of his harrowing ordeal reverberating through the air, the injured pilot awaited the arrival of a doctor to tend to his wounds. Yet, fate had other plans, and before medical aid could reach him, the pilot died.

The Haunting of Moore Cottage and Wawona Hotel

However, it seems that the pilot’s spirit never truly checked out of Moore Cottage, lingering in the ethereal realm that veils the boundary between the living and the departed. Over the years, reports have surfaced of ghostly apparitions haunting the hallowed halls of Wawona Hotel, with staff and guests alike bearing witness to the spectral figure of the crashed pilot around the place where he died.

Clad in his weathered leather jacket, his cap pulled low over his brow, and his goggles adorned with a white silk scarf fluttering in the wind, the pilot’s ghost is said to roam the grounds of Moore Cottage. He is especially reported about coming down the stairs of the cottage.

Who was the Pilot Haunting the Hotel?

There are a couple of questions as to who and when this happened and the true name behind the accident. Did it even happen as most accounts of this story is described as a legend. 

Could it be the 1926 plane crash of LeRoy Jeffers form New York who was said to have been instantly killed? Could it be a plane crash that fits the description we haven’t been able to find yet?

Because, although remote, Wawona had a landing strip for planes. In 1927, an airline company began carrying passengers, mail, newspapers and light freight on 50-minute flights from Merced to Wawona. The airstrip remained operational until 1941, when the government ruled the meadow unsuitable for air traffic.

Despite the passage of time, the echoes of flight still reverberate through the halls of Wawona Hotel, a haunting reminder of the pilot’s tragic demise and the spectral legacy he left behind. As night descends upon the meadows of Yosemite, the ethereal presence of the crashed pilot lingers.

The Navarran Prince Haunting the Parador de Olite in Pamplona

In the former Navarra Kingdom in Spain, there is a former castle that is said to be haunted. The Parador de Olite in Pamplona is said to have a portrait of a prince that is said to be haunted. But it is certainly not the only ghost said to haunt the rooms of the hotel.

A haunted hotel is in a former castle close to Pamplona and is there to fulfill a Navarran medieval fantasy for those wanting to stay at something really old and spectacular.

Part of the Haunted Historic Hotel Chain

This former castle is now a part of the National Parador Hotel chain that takes historic sites and turns them into hotels you can stay in and experience the rich history of the building. The Rise and Fall of the Kingdom of Navarre

The hotel is found in a small town called Olite in a former castle to the Kings of Navarre from the late middle ages. It was the seat of the kingdom from the reign of Charles 3rd the Noble from 1387 until the conquest by Castille in 1512. 

The Kingdom of Navarre was a disputed Basque kingdom on both sides of the western Pyrenees between present day Spain and France. 

After the Kingdom became a part of Castile the palace started to deteriorate and was neglected for years. It also had several damaging fires over the years that took out some of the towers and its interior.

It wasn’t until 1937 when they started to rehabilitate the castle back to its former glory. But although there are some documents telling how it once used to be, some of the rich history of the castle seems to be lost forever. 

The Ghost of the Prince in the Portrait

Inside of the building there hangs a portrait of the prince and it is said that the light bulb above it is lit at all times, even when the lights in the rest of the castle is turned off. This is the portrait of Carlos de Viana and he is said to be one of the ghosts haunting the place.

The supposed portrait of the prince hangs in the main hall of the Parador. His face looks tortured and depicts his inner turmoil that his life was as he was sent into exile by his own father. 

Prince Carlos was a Navarran prince living in the castle from 1421 to 1461. He was a man of culture and loved music and literature, translating Aristoteles into Aragonese and wrote the chronicles of the Kings of Navarre by himself. 

Because of his interests, he often found himself at odds with his father, John II of Aragon. They were also political enemies and a civil war broke out in 1451 between the father and son because of disputes about who was the rightful heir to the throne as his father had remarried and favored his stepson to take the throne. The son lost the war but it ended in them reconciling and Charles being appointed as the heir to the Navarre Kingdom. 

Although it looked like it ended in peace, Carlos died soon after in Barcelona and many believed that it was his father’s henchmen or even his stepmother who had poisoned him. It is also possible that he died of tuberculosis as he was known to be a sickly man and prone to depression 

The Other Ghosts of the Parador de Olite

There is also a wing in the castle that is said to be haunted by a strange melody. It is said that sad laments and old melodies can  be heard from the ghosts of the castle, still roaming around. It is especially heard in the towers. 

Many believe it is Carlos III the noble who in his afterlife is taking a walk through the castle with his favorite lion named Marzot. He was the grandfather of the prince in the portrait and similar in many ways about how peculiar they were.

It was under his rule that Olite entered a golden age as a city when they built their castle here and took their seat there as ruler when he built what is known as The New Palace. This new royal seat was built on top of the Roman fortification and the Old Palace from the 12th century. 

The ghost and the strange music from the time of the king can also be seen and heard in Galeria del Rey or the Golden Gallery. It is a gallery next to the King’s chamber overlooking the Patio de las Mereras courtyard enclosed by its gothic tracery. 
The strange music that is sometimes heard was copper sheets that hung from chains in the ceiling and vibrated in the wind. 

The Dona Blanca of the Castle

This former castle is also said to have a Women in White ghost that are said to haunt the Parador de Olite by showing herself in the windows. 

In 1866 a Gustavo Adolfo Becquer visited the castle and saw something he thought had to be a ghost. In one of the Gothic windows in the palace he saw a white figure he guessed to be Doña Leonor de Trastámara haunting the place. 

When the sun shines and outlines the battlements with gold, it still seems that the banners can be seen fluttering and the steely helmets throw sparks of fire; when twilight bathes the ruins in a violet and mysterious tint, it still seems that the afternoon breeze murmurs a song moaning between the angles of the minstrels’ tower, and in some gothic window, on whose sill it sways in the breath of air the blue bell of a wild vine, it is believed to see a white and light shape appear for an instant and disappear.
