The Golconda Fort, known for its diamonds and wealth, is also thought to be haunted. It is said that you can still hear the sound of rattling ghunghroos from the ghost of a beautiful dancer and courtesan.

Perched majestically on a hill overlooking Hyderabad, the ancient Golconda Fort, a fortified cited with its ruined city stands as a testament to the grandeur and power of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, reigning from 1518 to 1687.

However, beneath its historical allure where diamonds like Koh-i-Nor and the Hope diamonds have been stored, lies a darker, more eerie reputation. Golconda Fort is reportedly haunted, with chilling tales of restless spirits, including those of long-dead soldiers and the ghostly specter of Taramati, a famous courtesan of the Qutb Shahi era.

A Fortress Steeped in History

This sprawling citadel built originally as a mud fort in the 11th or 13th century by the Kakatiyas, once the capital of the medieval sultanate ruling Andhra Pradesh, is renowned for its remarkable architecture, intricate gateways, and sprawling courtyards.

Golconda Fort’s formidable walls have witnessed centuries of history, from royal intrigue and epic battles to the opulence of the Qutb Shahi rulers. The fort had vast diamond mines and in the end the very word Golconda became synonyms with wealth.

This fortress-city, with its ingeniously designed acoustics and labyrinthine passages, was once a thriving hub of power and culture. The fort’s grandeur, however, is juxtaposed with a haunting presence that pervades its ancient stones.

Ghosts of Fallen Soldiers at Golconda Fort

Among the many legends that haunt Golconda Fort, one of the most enduring is the tale of the ghostly soldiers from the many years the place was used as a fort. These spectral warriors are believed to be the spirits of soldiers who perished during the many battles that took place within and around the fort. Visitors and locals alike have reported seeing shadowy figures patrolling the ramparts, their ghostly forms clad in ancient armor, seemingly guarding the fort even in death.

The eerie silence of the fort at night is often broken by the faint sounds of clashing swords and battle cries, echoing through the empty corridors. Some have even claimed to hear the soft, mournful murmurs of soldiers recounting their last moments. These spine-chilling experiences have cemented Golconda Fort’s reputation as one of the most haunted places in India.

The Tragic Tale of Taramati

Perhaps the most poignant and famous ghost story associated with Golconda Fort though is that of Taramati Mandir, one of the most celebrated courtesans of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. She served under the seventh ruler of the kingdom who ruled from 1626 to 1672.

Courtesan: Portrait of a courtesan, India, Deccan, Golconda from around 1630-50.

Taramati was not only known for her beauty but also for her exceptional talent in Kuchipudi dance and music. She was a beloved figure in the royal court, and her performances were legendary.

Together with her sister Premamati Nritya Mandir they used to perform on a platform called Kala Mandir a kilometer away and in the Baradari for the travelers at the serai, a roadside inn, as the King enjoyed the dance and song from his durbar sitting on top of the fort.

According to legend, the seventh Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah, the ruler of Golconda was deeply in love with Taramati. He was a lover of poetry and music and fell in love with her as he heard her sing.

Their love story, however, was doomed by the turbulent times and political upheaval and his ruling time was full of sorrows and trouble. We don’t really know much about Taramati’s feelings of this, but it does look like she was highly treasured.

The Tomb of Qutb Shahi

It is also said that the tomb of Qutb Shahi is where they buried Taramati and her sister together with her master as well as his queen around a kilometer away from the fort. They are among the few tombs that are not of royalty.

The southern entrance of the tomb complex was walled in fear of ghosts and goblins. Question is, to keep them out or to keep something in?

The Ghost of Taramati Baradari

Some versions of the tale suggest that Taramati met a tragic end, while others believe that she continued to live a life of sorrow after being separated from her beloved King. Details of her life is sparse, and mostly connected to the romantic fables about her being the love her Kings life.

Today, visitors to Golconda Fort often report hearing the unmistakable sound of ghunghroos (traditional anklet bells worn by dancers) echoing through the night after the fort is closed. This is said to happen around the baradari where she used to dance and sing especially.

These spectral sounds are believed to be the ghostly remnants of Taramati’s performances, a haunting reminder of a love and life that were lost to history.

Paranormal Encounters and Haunting Experiences

Over the years, numerous accounts of paranormal encounters at Golconda Fort have emerged. Tourists, night guards, and paranormal enthusiasts have all reported strange occurrences.

Some staying at the fort after closing time claim to have seen the paintings on the walls turn upside down by themselves.

Perhaps the worst is how people have reported about utensils being thrown at them and up against the walls in the Kabootarkhana or a feeling of a sharp pain coming out of nowhere.

Advertisements

The world’s biggest film city is allegedly a haunted one. It is rumored that Ramoji Film City is built upon a battlefield drenched in the blood of the old Nizam warriors from the Hyderabad Empire. They are reportedly haunting the place, sometimes even thought to be dangerous for the actors and crew.

Ramoji Film City, located in Hyderabad, India, is one of the largest film cities in the world. Guinness World Records actually says it is the largest. It spans over 2,000 acres and has been the backdrop for many blockbuster films like Bahubali: The Beginning (2015), The Dirty Picture (2011), Ghajini (2008), Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006).

Ramoji Film City: One of the more haunted places is the film city found in Hyderabad in India. Even some of the high profile actors claim that something is going on around the movie sets.

Ramoji Film City was established in 1996 by the renowned film producer Ramoji Rao who wanted to have something similar to Hollywood in India as well.

Amidst the glitz and glamor of this sprawling complex though is not just a hub of creativity and entertainment; it is also home to some of the most chilling legends and ghostly sightings according to the old legends.

The Ghost of the Nizam Warriors

Nizam Warriors: The Film city is supposedly built on top of battlefields where the Nizam warriors died.

When they built the film city it is said that the builders kept the land as it was without removing one tree or mountain to keep the spiritual peace of the place. Even though they didn’t take out any of the trees, it looks like something is wrong about the place.

It is reportedly said that the film city is built on grounds where Nizams of Hyderabad fought and died. It is said that the spirits of those soldiers fallen in those battles are still wandering restlessly there.

The Nizam of Huderabad was the ruler of the Hyderabad State until it became a part of the Maratha Confederacy after they lost in the 18th century.

They also fought in the Anglo-Maratha War where they became under British rule. Needless to say that there were plenty of wars throughout the times for the Nizam warriors to have fallen in.

The Paranormal Experiences of Visitors and Employees

Many visitors and employees of Ramoji Film City have reported paranormal experiences at the haunted spots. Some have reported seeing ghostly figures, hearing strange noises, and feeling a cold breeze. Some have even claimed to have had conversations with the ghosts allegedly haunting the place.

According to reports about the hauntings people often mention the incident when a chandelier fell from the ceiling. And it seems that the alleged haunting going on inside of Ramoji Film City is connected to lights.

Staff working with the light in the film city have claimed to have been pushed from the heights and gotten severely injured. There are also other types of crew that tell about the same thing and their clothes being ripped by something invisible.

Lights are known to turn on and off at random, the gates are getting locked on their own, and there is the case with the strange writing in the mirror in Urdu. A lot of the scary things are centered around the mirrors and many actors have reportedly seen strange things when getting ready for a shoot and looking in the mirror.

People have also heard strange voices and something whispering in Urdu, at least a couple of tourists staying in the guesthouse.

Scaring a Bollywood Superstar

Actress Tapsee Pannu is one of those that claim to have experienced something paranormal in the film city.

The actor in Pink, Tapsee Pannu talked about her own haunted experience when she stayed at one of the hotels in the film city.

This she shared in an interview in 2022. She was alone in her room and heard footsteps echoing and getting closer. She got scared and instead of finding out what was going on in her room, she forced herself to sleep. She said herself:

“There was no way I could fight a ghost.”

It is also home to some of the most chilling legends and ghostly sightings told from both the crew working in the shadows behind the camera as well as from the stars in front of them. Is Ramoji Film City Really Haunted?

The Spooky Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

Advertisements

Could there be something about the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport that has brought back restless spirits? Was there really something to the story about the pilot that saw a dancing lady in a white saree?

The Shamshabad Airport, also called Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is said to house ghosts of the past that still roam the halls of the terminal. Although the haunted stories are rampant, the origin and the truth of them are more vague and shrouded in legends and hersays.

This mysterious airport located in Hyderabad, landlocked in south-central India, is rumored to be one of the most haunted places in the country. From strange noises and unexplained sightings to the chilling tales of ghostly apparitions, the airport has a long history of paranormal activity.

The Rumors about the Haunted Terminal

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, also known as Hyderabad International Airport, has been the subject of many spooky rumors and ghost stories. It is named after the former Prime Minister of India and was opened in 2008, so it’s a fairly new airport with pretty new ghost stories.

But who are these ghosts said to haunt the pretty new airport? Apparently the airport was built after disputes over the land that left numerous people dead during its construction. According to the rumors from then, the airport authorities did not properly relocate the remains of those that died, and as a result, the spirits of the dead still haunt the terminal.

There are also rumors that the airport is actually built on top of a graveyard, and the people buried there were never properly removed.

The Ghosts of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

The rumors of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport being haunted have been around for many years. Some people claim to have seen ghosts wandering around the terminal, while others have reported hearing strange noises and voices when there is no one there.

Perhaps the strangest and scariest encounter the staff has had was when they got called into a meeting room. There they claimed they met a man that only looked at them before starting laughing as his head turned 360 degrees.

A pretty bold story to claim as true, and many of the staff have also claimed to have never heard about this before. So who really told it? Where did the story come from?

Some of the earliest claims of it being haunted can be traced as far back to 2009, when the airport had just opened.

Despite the rumors, the airport authorities have always denied that the terminal is haunted. They have attributed the strange noises and sightings to normal airport activity, such as the sound of planes taking off and landing. However, many people remain convinced that there is something supernatural going on at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

The Lady in White Saree Dancing on the Runway

The stories of the haunted terminal at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport are not just limited to rumors and hearsay. Many airport staff and passengers have reported strange experiences and sightings over the years.

One story recounts an incident where a pilot flying for Qatar airways one night was going for takeoff. He stopped the plane when he was a lady dancing in a white saree on the runway. When the authorities searched for her, they found nothing though.

Did People Really Die Under Construction?

Although the opening of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport happened amid protests by people fearing they would lose their jobs after they closed down Begumpet Airport and HAL Airport in Bangalore, did it really turn so bad that people died?

Not according to the written record. Although more than one has died at the airport to murder, freak accidents and bad health, it wasn’t really a mass murder because of the land when it opened as the legend claim. Could the ghosts be of something else then? Or was it the ill will of the locals as well as the chaos of the opening that created the ghost stories?

Believe it or not?

The stories of the haunted terminal at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport may never be fully explained. While many of the rumors and legends have been debunked or at least denied by authorities, there are still unexplained sightings and sounds that cannot be easily explained. It even got to the point of the official Instagram account for the airport to post about the haunted rumors in 2025 after many reported the story as false:

Whether or not you believe in the paranormal, there is no denying that the airport has a spooky reputation that continues to fascinate people around the world and from time to time makes its rounds on social media.

So, if you find yourself at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, keep your eyes and ears open. Who knows what spooky secrets you might uncover?

Including the dead bodies in the biology laps that legends say the students did different testings on.

The Guards that Never Returned

After Khairatabad Science College closed down, the government was afraid of the abandoned building being used by thieves and drug addicts, so they employed two guards to keep them out.

According to the guards, they heard strange sounds coming from the college that no one could explain. There wasn’t supposed to be anyone inside of it, but according to the legends, there was something dark that resided inside of its walls. On one particular day they heard the screams of a baby, sounding like it was in danger and they had to investigate.

One of the guards went on an inspection in the building to investigate the strange sounds coming from the haunted school but never returned.

When the police got involved, they found the missing guard dead in the building, although the cause of death was never uncovered. That is when the rumors about if you walked into the building, you wouldn’t get out alive.

There are also those claiming to hear shouting coming from within the haunted school as well. Could it be teenagers breaking in as a prank? Or could it really be the ghosts supposedly haunting the premise? Those thinking there are ghost in the building believe that when the college closed down, they were unable to get rid of all of the bodies, and they are now haunting the premise.

Is Khairatabad Science College really haunted?

Whether the stories are true or not, there is no denying that Khairatabad Science College has a rich history of spooky legends and ghostly encounters that continue to terrify the people walking past the abandoned school at night. The future of the building is as of yet unsure and the spirits can rest in peace it seems for now. So if you dare walk into the building, will you be able to get out as well?
