In the unassuming looking office building Pacific Isle Mortgage, workers have been complaining about a ghost disturbing their work. Running around the hallways and pranking the employees, the ghosts are said to be of the mischievous sort. 

In Pearl City, Hawaii, along the busy stretch of Kamehameha Highway, sits the unassuming office building of Pacific Isle Mortgage. Little do people just pass through that this building is one of the most haunted buildings on Oahu island.

At first glance, this two-story structure at 379 Kamehameha Highway, Suite B, appears to be just another typical business location, where the daily grind of paperwork and phone calls fills the air. However, those who have spent time within its walls know that something far more unsettling lies beneath the surface.

For years, employees working in this building have reported strange and eerie occurrences that defy explanation. It all began innocuously enough—lights flickering, a door inexplicably swinging shut on its own—but the activity soon escalated, leaving those who work here in a constant state of unease.

One of the most unnerving experiences happened to a woman who was working late one evening. As she sat at her desk, diligently reviewing documents, she felt a strange sensation. There really isn’t much to go on regarding the building’s history. The place itself was built in 1970.

The old government building in Hawai’i is said to be haunted. Who is wandering the halls of the Hawai’i State Capitol building? 

The Hawai‘i State Capitol building in downtown Honolulu, is more than just a hub of political activity—it’s a place with a reputation for ghostly encounters and eerie tales.

It was built in the late 1960s to move the location of the statehouse from the Iolani Palace, also believed to be haunted. Among the historic architecture and government offices, there have been whispers of strange happenings and spectral visitors, making it one of the most haunted spots in the area.

The Story of a Friendly “Imaginary Friend”

One of the most intriguing stories of the Hawai‘i State Capitol being haunted comes from former State Senator Eloise Tungpalan, who frequently brought her young daughter to the Capitol building when she was working. One day, while working in her office, Tungpalan noticed her daughter talking, laughing, and playing with an invisible companion. Her daughter seemed to be bouncing a ball, interacting with someone who wasn’t there. Curious, Tungpalan asked her daughter who she was playing with. The girl replied, “The nice Hawaiian lady.”

At the time, Tungpalan didn’t think much of it. Perhaps it was just a child’s imagination running wild in the vast, quiet halls of the Capitol building. However, the very next morning, something happened that sent a chill down her spine. As they walked by the statue of Queen Lili‘uokalani in front of the State Capitol, her daughter suddenly pointed and said with wide eyes, “Mom, that’s the lady who played with me at the office.”

Could the former queen’s spirit be watching over the halls of power? Queen Lili‘uokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii, remains a deeply respected and beloved figure. Many believe her spirit continues to linger near places of governance, symbolizing her enduring watch over her people and homeland. To this day, some employees and visitors claim to feel an inexplicable presence near the Queen’s statue or hear soft footsteps echoing through the halls late at night.

Queen Liliʻuokalani: Lydia Liliʻu Loloku Walania Kamakaʻeha (1838 – 1917) was the only queen regnant and the last sovereign monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, ruling from January 29, 1891, until the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom on January 17, 1893. The composer of “Aloha ʻOe” and numerous other works, she wrote her autobiography Hawaiʻi’s Story by Hawaiʻi’s Queen (1898) during her imprisonment following the overthrow.

Other Hauntings at the Capitol

The story of the Queen’s ghostly playdate isn’t the only supernatural tale whispered about the State Capitol. Workers have reported hearing strange sounds, like voices muttering just out of earshot, or the faint rustling of papers when no one else is around. Lights flicker mysteriously, and sudden cold drafts are often felt in otherwise warm rooms. Some have even claimed to see shadowy figures moving down the hallways, vanishing around corners as soon as they come into view.

Some say that the building was built on top of a mass grave of people who died in the epidemic in 1822. 

This was also where the king’s guard once had their barracks and some think that the spirits of the guards are still lingering. There is also a security guard who supposedly died said to haunt the Capital as well as a construction worker, still working away, even in his afterlife.

37 floors of ghosts. That is what they say about the Honolulu High Rise building, The Contessa Condominium. Built on top of what some think was a cemetery for the small pox victims, could they be haunting this place?

Across from the Hawaiian Humane Society, The Contessa Condominium in Honolulu is an unsuspecting tower of modern living, but beneath its polished exterior lies a sinister reputation. Some call it the most haunted building in all of Honolulu—a place where restless spirits roam the halls, where shadows lurk in every corner of the 37-story building, and where residents have reported eerie encounters that send shivers down the spine.

Ghost tours have The Contessa Condominium as a stop and even websites with listings of the apartments for sale or rent mentions the haunting tales around the building and try to divert the attention away from the stories. But many who do are left with tales of unexplained happenings and ghostly apparitions and end up leaving because of it.

Legend of the Apartment Building

But why is The Contessa Condominium haunted? There are many theories floating around, but many claim that the building was built upon an old burial place. It was at least built where the Kamoiliili Church was located with its cemetery until it was demolished in the late 60s. 

According to some there were many thousand people, up to perhaps 5000 people who died in the smallpox epidemic back in 1910 buried there. There is also the graveyard right next to it that people claim to see orbs float around. Could this be the reason behind the hauntings?

In fact, according to some, there were 466 bodies they exhumed in September in 1968 and moved to another cemetery. It is said that the bodies were re-buried at the Kawaiahao Church’s cemetery.

This upset many of the body’s relatives who even sued because of it. It was also said that only 206 of the exhumed bodies were even identified. Some say that not all the bones were removed as well and the spirits they belong to are now haunting The Contessa Condominium which was built in 1971. 

A few have claimed to see shadowy figures darting in and out of view in their peripheral vision and some people claiming to be very receptive to the supernatural straight up have refused to go inside The Contessa Condominium because of what they see. 

Others have heard footsteps trailing them as they walk through the building, only to turn around and find no one there. The elevator reaches the ground floor carrying only ghosts into the lobby. Some even swear they’ve heard disembodied laughter echoing down the stairwells in the dead of night—a chilling sound that starts softly and grows louder before fading away.

Ghostly Residents: The Ghost Dog and the Old Woman

Among the many entities said to haunt The Contessa Condominium, two stand out. First is the Ghost Dog that roams the grounds. Residents and passersby alike have reported seeing a spectral canine darting across the lawn or wandering the perimeter. Often described as a small, dark-colored dog, the apparition seems harmless at first glance—just a stray looking for a home. But those who have seen it up close swear that it is anything but ordinary. The dog appears suddenly and vanishes just as quickly, leaving behind no paw prints or evidence of its presence. Some claim to hear its faint whimpering at night, a mournful sound that echoes through the building’s halls, even when no animals are present.

But the spectral dog is not alone. There is also the ghost of an old woman who lingers at the bus stop in front of the building. She is often seen late at night, sitting quietly as if waiting for a bus that never comes. Witnesses describe her as wearing old-fashioned clothing, with a forlorn look on her face. Some have attempted to speak to her, only for her to vanish into thin air the moment they approach. Bus drivers passing by have reported seeing her too, a solitary figure under the dim glow of the streetlight, only to disappear in a blink. Rumor has it that she is a former resident who died tragically, and now, her spirit waits at the bus stop for eternity.

A History of Tragedy: Suicides

The Contessa Condominium’s dark reputation is further compounded by its history of suicides that are said to have happened more frequent inside of the building than other places. 

Over the years it is said that several residents have taken their own lives within the building’s walls, leaving a lingering shadow over the property. Some say the atmosphere in certain units is thick and oppressive, as if the very walls have absorbed the despair of those who came before.

This is for now just an anecdotal rumor that goes along with the rest of the ghost stories, and there really aren’t any true numbers we can have a look at. 

Living with the Spirits in The Contessa Condominium

Is The Contessa Condominium truly haunted, or is it simply a place where the tragedies of the past have left a deep, lingering mark? For those brave enough to live at The Contessa, the supernatural presence is just part of life. 

Some residents have made peace with the ghosts, acknowledging their existence but choosing not to be afraid. Others, however, find it hard to stay for long, citing the building’s unsettling energy and the ever-present feeling of being watched. The Dark Secrets of Detroit Masonic Temple

Dark legends surrounds The Detroit Masonic Temple, casting long shadows over the city of Detroit. Built by the mysterious Freemasons, the building has since spun its own legends and ghost stories within its walls. But how much of it is actually true?

The Detroit Masonic Temple, towering 16 floors and holding over 1,000 rooms, is one of the largest Masonic Temples in the world, its Gothic architecture looming over Detroit’s skyline in Michigan.

Built in 1926 in the Cass Corridor neighborhood of the city as a meeting place for Freemasons, its intricate layout of concealed passageways, hidden staircases, and secretive meeting halls reflect the mystique of its origins. It was also designed a large cathedral, several chapels, two stylish ballrooms, hotel facilities, a library, a massive drill hall, and a 4,000-seat auditorium.

The Freemasons and the Legends of Detroit Masonic Temple

There are a lot of details about the Detroit Masonic Temple that has spun legends. The trowel placing the cornerstone was the same George Washington used for the cornerstone of the Capitol Building in DC.  And cornerstones is a genre of conspiracy theories in itself, hiding different secrets. 

Freemasons: The Masonic Square and Compasses.

Even today it serves as the meeting place to masonic organizations like the York Rite Sovereign College of North America, the Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star as well as sports teams. The fact that it belongs to a masonic organization in a gothic looking building makes the site even more haunting and conspiracy theories overflow around these clubs. 

The Masons are a spiritual fraternity with lodges across the world dating back to the 13th century. The organizations are known for dabbling in the ancient mysteries of Eleusis, esoteric knowledge, initiation rituals, and shared secrets. Could it be that it is more than a secretive gentleman’s club?

It was saved from closing down by Jack White of the White Stripes who wanted to help pay back the help they gave to his mother when they gave her a job working as an usher in the theater. It captivates and unsettles, with the cold stonework and long, echoing hallways shrouded in an air of enigma and secrecy.

George D. Mason and his Urban Legend

George DeWitt Mason: (July 4, 1856 – June 3, 1948) was an American architect in Detroit. An urban legend claim he is haunting Detroit Masonic Temple.

One of the most enduring legends surrounding the Detroit Masonic Temple involves its architect, George D. Mason, who, according to urban lore, poured his heart and fortune into the building. 

Originally from Syracuse in New York, he moved in his youth to Detroit where he worked as an architect for the rest of his life. A number of Mason’s works, either by himself or as part of Mason & Rice, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

But what about the urban legend that lingers within the walls of the building he designed? According to the stories, financial troubles and his wife leaving him allegedly drove him to despair, leading to the claim that Mason leapt from the Temple’s rooftop, haunted by the ruin his dream had caused him.

But did this really happen though? Many news outlets have retold the legend, so it must be true, right? Seems like it only is a legend though. According to official records, Mason died in his home in the Wilshire Apartments building on June 3, 1948. He was then 91 years old and buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Detroit, and his wife never left him.

Even how many times the legend about George D. Mason is debunked, the haunted legends from the Detroit Masonic Temple persist.

While records do not confirm this tale, the ghost of a man ascending the stairs to the rooftop has reportedly been spotted by guests and staff alike, his ghostly footsteps punctuating the silence of the Temple’s upper floors. It is also said that the door to the roof is somehow always unlocked, even though the staff makes sure to lock it every night. 

The building’s long hallways and shadowed rooms have only added to its ghostly reputation, attracting paranormal enthusiasts and ghost hunters from around the world. Many visitors have reported unnerving encounters throughout the Detroit Masonic Temple—shadowy figures drifting down dimly lit corridors, faint whispers from vacant rooms, and an unsettling feeling of being watched.

The Grand Paradi Towers, a high-rise apartment tower in Mumbai are said to be haunted, possible haunted because of the string of suicides that happened, making people wondering… why? Could it have been something paranormal that made them do it?

Standing tall amidst the bustling cityscape of South Mumbai, the financial hub of India, the Grand Paradi Towers, three residential high-riser built in 1975 at Kemps Corner, has long been associated with luxury and opulence.

Initially home to some of the city’s wealthiest residents, the 28-storey building, once one of Mumbai’s most expensive, now carries the weight of a far darker reputation. Over the years, it has become infamous as one of the most haunted sites in India where the rumor is that a ghost compels its residents to jump to their death.

A History of Affluence and Tragedy

When Grand Paradi Towers was constructed, it was the epitome of high-end living, attracting the elite of Mumbai. They were diamond merchants, businessmen and Bollywood stars. However, this image of prosperity began to crumble in the late 1990s. 

It seems like it started with the suicide of an elderly couple living in the high risers. Soon, their son and daughter-in-law followed the same tragic fate.

Starting in 1998, the towers became notorious for a series of inexplicable suicides that have since cast a long, eerie shadow over its corridors. More than 20 residents have met their untimely deaths by leaping from the building’s heights, and tragically, the victims have included not only adults but also maids and children.

Exactly what is happening inside of the apartments of this affluent high risers?

The Curse of the Eighth Floor

The spate of suicides has led many to believe that the building is cursed, with particular notoriety attached to the eighth floor in the B wing. This floor has witnessed some of the most distressing incidents, including the deaths of three generations of a single family who all jumped to their deaths. The pattern of these tragic events has given rise to the belief that an evil presence or malevolent spirit compels residents to take their own lives.

Locals and residents have reported an unsettling atmosphere on the eighth floor. Stories abound of strange occurrences, such as disembodied whispers, cold spots, and an oppressive feeling of dread that descends upon anyone who lingers too long. The inexplicable nature of these suicides has led to rampant speculation about paranormal influences, with many convinced that an unseen force drives people to their demise.

Paranormal Activities and Unseen Entities

Visitors and paranormal enthusiasts who have ventured into Grand Paradi Towers often recount eerie experiences. Flickering lights, sudden gusts of cold wind, and the sensation of being watched are commonly reported phenomena. 

Some claim to have seen shadowy figures moving in the periphery of their vision, only to vanish when directly observed. The most chilling accounts come from those who have felt an invisible force pushing or pulling them towards the edges of the balconies, evoking a visceral fear of an imminent fall and a chilling voice egging them to kill themselves.

The Victims of the Suicides

But could it be something else than paranormal activity driving the residents to take their own life? 

In the case of the elderly couple, Vasadeo and Tara Dalal on June 14th in 1998, the police found a letter, detailing how they claimed their son and daughter in law harassed them to death. Seven years later, when the verdict of the court case was raised against the son and daughter-in-law, they chose the same fate and so did their 19-year-old daughter. They lived on the eighth floor and the haunted rumors started to circulate after this, especially it being connected to the eighth floor. It is said that after this, they sealed the apartment in question. If that is still the case today though, is unknown. 

The 24 year old Charisma Kadakia who jumped in 2000, it was said she was depressed, although her boyfriend claimed he had no idea about her plans. 

With the case of the housemaid, it is unclear if she actually jumped or fell out of the window. There was also another domestic help that threatened to jump from the 19th floor after his employers accused him of stealing.

A Place of Unease and Avoidance

Today, despite its prime location and luxurious facade, Grand Paradi Towers is avoided by many who fear its haunted reputation. The once-coveted address has seen a decline in desirability, with prospective buyers and tenants often deterred by the building’s dark history. 

Another thing worth noting, is the proximity to the mysterious Mumbai’s Tower of Silence in the forest just behind the towers. Stories tell that back when the suicide happened, you could still see the vultures circling over the parsi burial place, giving the place an eerie feeling.

At one point the committee organized counselling sessions for its residents in an attempt to curb the dangerous trend. Rumors ran rampant about the reason for the strange things happening in the towers. Had they in fact built the apartments on top of a burial ground?

The owners even got carried away with the haunted rumors and ordered a puja and a havan. It is said that since then, the activity has stopped.

In the old town of Elche there is an old library that is said to be haunted. Securitas have claimed to have witness an entire procession of ghost monks wandering through the halls that once used to be a Franciscan Monastery.

According to local folklore, the ghost of a friar roams the library at night, his presence felt by those who dare to venture into the dimly lit corridors. Visitors have reported hearing soft footsteps and murmured prayers, as if the spirit of the friar is still carrying out his duties even in death. Some have even claimed to have seen the apparition of a hooded figure, silently gliding through the shelves, disappearing into thin air.

One such encounter of the paranormal involved a group of security guards who were stationed at the library during the night shift. They reported strange noises, cold drafts, and flickering lights that seemed to have no logical explanation. Some even claimed to have seen shadowy figures darting in and out of the corners of their vision, and even an entire monastic procession. 

On this particular night in the early 1990s, they were making their rounds as usual when one of them heard the sound of chains being dragged on the ground from the courtyard. Later that night, around 3 o’clock, he heard the same again inside of the library. When he went to check, he found piles of books stacked on the table, without anyone having gone inside. He tried to ignore it and went back to work. But then the specter of a ghost monk appeared and he fled from the library, running as fast as he could and spent the rest of the night in his car with his weapon ready, scared to death. 

The case reached the press, but the staff of the library was asked to not talk about ghosts and phantoms in the library. Their work was to offer the service of books, not ghost stories. What could it be?

Sure, there are many things that could explain strange things happening in an old building like the library. According to a staff member at the time, it was apparently a rat infestation in the air-went, making strange rattling and scratching sounds. The books could be a prank or just something the security guard forgot about. The wind can also create mystical sounds. But a whole procession of monks?

On the streets of Salt Lake City, a satellite city and IT hub in Kolkata lies an office building shrouded in whispers and eerie tales—the Wipro Office Building. Legend has it that Salt Lake City, or Bidhannagar (বিধাননগর), as it is officially known, was constructed upon a wetland—a land steeped in ancient mystique and rumored to be an ancient burial ground. 

Before the IT Boom the city is known as now, the area Salt Lake City is built upon, used to be a jungle, and according to local lore, a place of murders and crimes took place in the dark. One speculation is that the reported haunting that is said to go on in the building comes from this.

But it is not just the apparitions that instill fear in the hearts of those who frequent the Wipro Office Building. After the church buildings were privatized, the church was converted into a fabric warehouse and it was said that it was haunted already then. The people that worked there didn’t dare to go inside except for in pairs because of all the strange things that happened in the warehouse where they kept fabric.

The rolls of fabric would keep falling over together as strange noises filled the building with an eerie sensation.

The same thing is said to have been reported when the Woolworth Chain took over the building. The lights kept turning on and off as well as objects having a life of their own. They closed seven years later and it is said that when they locked the door, the lights turned on. But nothing was as frightening as what they found when they renovated the place. 

During renovations on the old building of the Provincial Council of Granada, a shocking discovery sent chills down the spines of the workers. Beneath the weathered walls and crumbling foundations, human bones were unearthed—many of them belonging to children. The GP Block in Meerut has been abandoned for decades now. Ever since then, people passing by have claimed to have seen something they think must be ghosts. Who are the women in the red sari lingering on the roof?

In Meerut lies a street that has become infamous for its paranormal activity. GP Block, as it is known, is the site of numerous ghostly encounters, unexplainable sightings, and spine-chilling experiences. Many locals claim that the area is haunted by the spirits of those who met a tragic end, and that their restless souls still linger in the dark corners of the block.

Although Meerut is one of the fastest developing cities in India, it seems like the GP Block is the exception. There are especially three buildings that have been abandoned for decades now in the very old city of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The place used to be a nice area in the city, but now people are frightened of going there. They are owned by the Indian defense forces, but left it to decay in the late 1950s or even as far back as the 1930s.

Even though there were hired caretakers in 2014, they misuse their position and rented the rooms out for seedy activity like to gamblers and couples for a few hours. When the caretakers were fired after they found out what went on in the buildings, they installed a big iron gate at the entrance. Is it this that people have seen when claiming to have met a ghost? Or could this be something else, perhaps something paranormal?

Haunted Stories of GP Block

There are many stories about who is haunting the buildings and the locals think that the buildings are haunted by evil spirits where they sit in isolated places that are now covered with wild plants. These are some of the more told ones. 

One of the most popular stories is that of a ghostly woman who is seen sitting on the roof of the building. People claim different things. Some say she is a woman wearing a red sari combing her hair on the roof. Some say they have seen her drift in and out of the building. 

Another ghost frequently reported on is different women wearing red clothes around the building. Could this be the same thing that people have seen on the roof? Perhaps it is just a rumor that turned out to be something more kind of thing?

There are also those that claim to have seen four men drinking beer either inside of the abandoned building or on top of the roof with a single lit candle on the table. 

Is GP Block Really Haunted?

Although there aren’t many details to the hauntings, they are plentiful and the stories of ghosts and hauntings have spread far and wide, attracting curious visitors from all over the country to try and have a look for themselves, although most of them are turned away at the gate.

However, despite the many stories and investigations, there has been no concrete evidence of paranormal activity in GP Block. While some people believe that the area is haunted, others believe that it’s nothing more than a legend and remains of the illegal stuff that went on for a period under the caretaker’s reign.

Regardless of whether GP Block is really haunted or not, one thing is for sure – the legend of the Haunting of GP Block will continue to fascinate and terrify those who dare to venture into its eerie depths.
